Ten years ago, it would have been hard to find a health-conscious chef remotely interested in fitness or a plant-based diet, let alone one who would get out of bed before noon to go for a run. So, it might be surprising for Toronto food fans checking out their favourite chefs’ Instagram feeds to see pictures of neon running shoes and kale smoothies instead of pork belly and head cheese, all collected under the hashtag #FoodRunners.

Every Monday and Wednesday at 8:15 a.m., food writer Chuck Ortiz convenes a group of restaurant insiders at Richmond and Portland Streets in Toronto for a six- or seven-kilometre run. After the 40-minute session, the group convenes upstairs at the Nike Loft, where the runners take turns creating superfood smoothies for the gang. Nike Food Runners favourite, Alexandra Feswick, Chef du Cuisine at Toronto hot-spot Drake Hotel will head up the Nike Farm to Table brunch event at Tmrw.Tday culture fest in Negril in conjunction with David Wolfe’s exclusive Rasta River tour. Alexandra joined Drake Hotel as Chef du Cuisine in 2014. Prior to taking the culinary reins at the Drake Hotel, Alexandra began her training at George Brown Chef School in 2005.  After gaining an apprenticeship at the Ancaster Mill under Chef Jeff Crump, she eagerly developed a passion for fresh, local produce served in unique and elegant ways. After relocating to Toronto, Alexandra began to impact the city’s culinary community at some of its best restaurants including Wine Bar, Brockton General and Samuel J. Moore. In 2014 Alexandra’s prestige was recognized by competing in the invitational Gold Medal Plates. Chef Alexandra thrives on her involvement with the community and charitable contributions with organizations such as The Ontario Hostelry Institute, The Stop, The Daily Bread Food Bank and Willow Breast & Hereditary Cancer Support. With her growing reputation, varied background and commitment to quality, Alexandra provides customers with the comfort food critics, regulars and new-followers have come to treasure.
